Mary Ann Varnadore, 79, of Waycross, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Private memorial services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, September 4, 2021.
Mrs. Varnadore was born October 29, 1941, in Alexander City, Alabama, to the late Alton Virgil & Mary Ruth Dukes Shurum. She was a former cashier and greeter for Wal-Mart in Douglas. Mrs. Varnadore was a breast cancer survivor for 11 years. She loved her dog Foxy that she rescued from the roadway and her furry friend Sparky that passed many years ago and was always a constant thought and unforgotten friend. She had four cats that she loved: Chula, Tanara, Charlie and Snowy. She took in feral cats like orphan children. She enjoyed spending sunny days on the porch with her husband Clint. Many Saturdays were spent with visits from her brother Billy and his companion Evelyn. In earlier days she spent time crocheting and riding her bicycle. Mrs. Varnadore was a woman of faith that loved the Lord. She had a big heart and loved her three boys. She had a special place in her heart for each and every grandchild and great-grandchild.
She is survived by her sons: Wayne Dykes & Missy of Fitzgerald, Curtis Dykes & Candy of Fitzgerald, Tony Dykes & Judy of Fitzgerald, Josh Stenton & Cheryl of Kennesaw, and Mark Stenton & Christy of Daytona Beach, Florida; step-children: Glen Varnadore & Tori of Waycross and Lisa Van Fossan & Janan of Blountville, Tennessee; grandchildren: Amanda Dykes Gills of Fitzgerald, Matthew Dykes of Tallahassee, Florida, Shawn Senters of Fitzgerald, Sarah Senters Walker of Shiloh, Illinois, Justin McCutchen of Cordele, James McCutchen of Fitzgerald, Shaun McCutchen of Fitzgerald, Kevin Dykes of Fitzgerald, Mariah Dykes of Fitzgerald, Amy Tucker of Fitzgerald and Leona Stenton of Kennesaw; step-grandchildren: Ian Van Fossan of Appling, Jeryl Van Fossan of Haines City, Florida, Rhiana Van Fossan of Kingsport, Tennessee, Joslyn Thornton of San Francisco, California and Clint Varnadore of Richmond, Kentucky; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and one step-great-grandchild; brothers: Billy Shurum of Sylacauga, Alabama, Vernon Shurum of Alexander City, Alabama, Alton Shurum of Dadeville, Alabama, Randy Shurum of Dadeville, Alabama and Mark Shurum of Goodwater, Alabama and a sister, Mozell Dickerson of Alexander City, Alabama. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aubry Dykes; her husband, John Stenton; her husband, Clint Varnadore; and a brother, Jessie Shurum, Sr.
