Joan M. (Hanlon) Farley, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at her home in Charlestown. She was 92 years of age.
Joan was born in Boston on May 17, 1929, a daughter of the late John J. Hanlon and Agnes E. (O'Brien) Hanlon. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and Charlestown High School. Joan began her career at the age of 16, working for the New England Telephone Company until she devoted all of her time to raising her family. She later went back to work for the John Hancock Insurance Company for over 25 years, retiring as a Telecommunications Supervisor. Joan enjoyed taking trips with the Golden Age Center and traveling to Foxwoods. She was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
Joan is the beloved wife of the late retired Boston Firefighter Joseph P. Farley. She is the devoted mother of Bernard Farley and his companion Dottie Egan, Suzanne Travis, John Farley, Joan Farley, Jean Farley, David Farley and his wife JoAnne, William Farley and his companion Maureen Keating, and the late Joseph P. Farley Jr. She is the loving Nana of Michaela, Catherine, Helen, David, Kevin, Rachel, Kalyn, and to her 6 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Dorothy McNeil, Mary Prince and David Hanlon. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's visiting hours on Wednesday morning, September 8, 2021 from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 12 Noon. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
