With great sadness, our family announces the passing of Renee Rueda Owens, our loving and beloved sister, mother and grandmother “Moo”.
She left us peacefully with her children and best friend by her side in Ventura, California on August 27th, 2021.
Renee was born on September 12, 1958 to her parents Bobby Leon and Wanda Sue Owens. The oldest of three, Renee had one younger brother, Robert Owens, and one younger sister, Rachell Freshour.
Born into a military family, Renee moved often as a child but planted her roots in Southern California. This is where she raised her children, watched her grandchildren grow, and was actively involved with her community.
Renee lived a life centered around the values of compassion, empathy, and love. She took care of others without hesitation, and before ever worrying about herself. Renee embodied the true definition of someone that is absolutely beautiful inside and out. She lived a happy and independent life full of laughter.
Spending time with family and shopping with her best friend, Mary, were just a couple of Renee’s favorite things to do. She was also extremely enthusiastic about being an active member of her church, First United Methodist of Ventura.
Her family, friends, and community are left behind with an immense amount of grief and sadness in her absence. The endless and cherished memories of her love, compassion, humor and laughter will never be forgotten.
Renee leaves behind her children, Jenica Helfinstine, Elizabeth Hellen, Michael Hellen, son-in-law Chad Destrampe, and five grandchildren, Ezra and Owen Destrampe, Eliana, Desi and Jordyn Jimenez.
A celebration of Renee’s life will be held on Monday, September 13th at 5 p.m. First United Methodist Church 1338 W Santa Clara St, Ventura, Ca 93003. In the spirit of her love of life and laughter the family is asking that all that attend wear happy colors. She wants us to carry on in gratitude and joy.
