Obituary

Carl A. Deeb, 82, of Fort Washington, Maryland peacefully passed away on August 13, 2021, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center. Carl was born in Fall River, MA on June 13, 1939, to Augustine Deeb and Marie Anne Goulet. Carl was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1957. He was a caddy at the Fall River Country Club for many years. Based on his academic achievements, leadership skills, motivation and character as well as his golf service, Carl received a four-year scholarship from the Francis Quimet Scholarship Fund while he attended Northeastern University where he joined ROTC and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He also attended University of Maryland where he obtained his Master of Education. He proudly served active duty for the United States Army from 1963 to 1965 as 1st Lieutenant. He returned to Massachusetts and married Sara E. Bates in 1965. Shortly thereafter Carl and Sara settled in Maryland.

Carl was very dedicated to working. He worked as a teacher for over 40 years for Prince Georges County public schools and at St. Mary’s School of Piscataway. Carl believed in the education of the entire person, body, mind, and spirit. He applied unconventional methods of teaching into the classroom to include pottery, woodworking, bee keeping, chess, typing, investing, principles of finance and morality. He treated each student as if they were one of his own. Each child touched his heart, and he carried his students with him all these years. Carl also retired from Citizens Bank of Maryland and worked at Rosecroft Raceway. Carl established an investment club, The Family Money Tree, under the auspices of the National Association of Investors (Better Investing). He recruited members and was highly successful in providing investing and financial information and promoting investor success.

He was a devoted family man and friend. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and stories, and sense of humor. He made sure he marked every birthday, holiday, and occasion with a personal card and two-dollar bill, even during his most difficult days. Carl also enjoyed travelling with his wife, family and friends. He especially enjoyed visiting The Skywalk overlooking the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Canada. For years he and Sara made annual trips to Florida during the winter months and trips to Massachusetts to visit family and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; Augustine Deeb and Marie Anne Goulet; step father, Bernard Goulet; grandchild, Caleb Burge.

Carl is survived by wife of 56 years, Sara E. (Bates); son, John Deeb and his wife Shari; daughter, Anne McKissick and her husband Eric; son, David Deeb and his wife Melissa; daughter Mary Deeb; daughter, Nancy Chaves and her husband Christian; daughter, Beth Riggs and her husband, Farron; daughter, Susan Burge and her husband Brent; grandchildren, Ashley Deeb, Alanna Deeb, Edward Gillison Jr., Ciara White and her wife, Tiana, Sara McKissick, Cajetan Deeb, Justin Deeb, Sophia Deeb, Grayson Deeb, John-Paul Deeb, Catalina Chaves, Sebastian Chaves, Baylor Burge, Max Riggs, Emma Burge; great grandchildren, Sa’Mari McGinnie, Cheyanne Deeb. He is also survived by other relatives and friends in Massachusetts.

Carl’s funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday, September 25th in which relatives and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael's Church at 10 a.m. Interment with Military Honors to follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours on Friday, September 24th from 6-8 p.m.
