Obituary

Philbert J.Bourgeois, of Franklin passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 29, 2021.

He was 85 years old and had over come many medical obstacles over the years, we believe this is due to his strong determination, strength and stubbornness that kept him going and going giving him the nickname “Energizer Bunny” We admired his witty sense of humor that prevailed even up to his final days.

Phil was born on December 27th, 1935 to James and Laura (Boucher) Bourgeois in Shediac Bridge, New Brunswick, Canada. He immigrated to Waltham,Ma in the mid 50’s. He became a US citizen and served in the US Army after his honorable discharge of active duty he became a Sargent in the National Guard for several years.

He was employed at General Motors (Chevy guy)in Framingham until his early retirement in 1977 when he survived a heart aneurysm that the doctors had only given him a 1% chance of surviving.

He was formally married to Doris (Leger) Darling and remained friends and together they have six children who he leaves behind. Marcel (Marian) Bourgeois, Janice Bourgeois Flinton, John Bourgeois, Jamie (Tracy) Bourgeois, Mark ( Kristine) Bourgeois, and LoriAnn ( Matt) Zajac.

He loved fishing, bowling, sports, playing games, a good old western movie, helping care for his granddaughter Brianna and traveling New England with his son Marcel in search of the best lobster dinner. The thing he most enjoyed was spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren who he leaves behind.

They are Angelique Bourgeois, Jacqueline Bourgeois, Matthew Zajac, Brianna Bourgeois, Connor Bourgeois, Tyler Zajac, Sydney Bourgeois, Sophia Bourgeois, Chloe Zajac, Jamie Libby, Lisa Birren, Dylan Snyder and his great grandchildren Saydee,Brad,Dylan and Nicholas.

Even though he lived in Franklin his heart never left Canada where he leaves many friends, family,nieces and nephews and his siblings Louise, Annie, Jacqueline, Philippe and He was predeceased by his siblings Robert, Arthur, Frank, Oscar, Claude, Elie, Telex, Alice, Irene, Geneva, and Georgette, all from New Brunswick, Canada.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours Friday Sept.3rd, in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. from 5-8 PM.

His funeral will be held Saturday Sept.4th from the funeral home at 9AM followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Franklin at 10AM. To view the Mass stmarysfranklin.org
