Leonard M. Colasanti passed away peacefully at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Friday, August 27th. He was 80. Born and raised in Medford, he was the son of the late Lidio and Catherine (Fucci) Colasanti. Len graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1959 and went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from Tufts University. While at Tufts, Len participated in the ROTC program and was commissioned an officer in the United States Air Force at graduation. During his four years of service, he was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in California, reaching the rank of Captain. Upon his discharge and return to the Boston area, Len embarked on a long career with EG&G. He and his beloved wife Joanne lived in Chelmsford for several years before settling in Melrose. While working primarily in the Wakefield office of EG&G, Len soon advanced in leadership positions from engineer to sales manager and later as divisional manager. While having great success in the workplace, he made time spent with his family a priority. Len coached baseball, enjoyed golfing and spent much time on Cape Cod with his family. As an officer of his high school class, Len stayed friends with many of the people with whom he grew up and always looked forward to helping organize his class reunions. As years went by he and Joanne enjoyed focusing their attention to their grandchildren and loved watching them grow up. A humble man of strong character, he lived an unassuming life, yet his intelligence and accommodating disposition was what his family, relatives and many friends could turn to when they needed guidance and support. Len was regarded by all as a true gentleman.
The beloved husband of the late Joanne (DeStefano) Colasanti, Leonard was a devoted father to Paul Colasanti and his late wife Kimberly, Karyn Isabella and her husband Albert, and the late Gary Colasanti. He was a loving grandfather to David and Molly Colasanti, and Marc and Lauryn Isabella. He was also the dear brother of Lydia Maroti and her husband Lewis.
A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday, September 2nd at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may attend visiting hours, Wednesday 4 – 8 PM. Interment will be private.
