Sutton – Lawrence Moore, of Sutton, died early Thursday morning, April 6, 2006 in the Jewish Healthcare Center. He was 92 years old.
He leaves his wife with whom he was celebrating their 25th year of marriage, Janice E. (Rudman) Moore; two daughters, Alice Moore Reiner and her husband, Allan of Manhattan, New York, Barbara Moore Wedow and her husband David of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; two step-daughters, Barbara E. Jacques and her husband Donald of Tolland, Connecticut and Rebecca A. Johnson of Auburn. He also leaves six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; A brother, Norman Moore predeceased him.
Larry was born February 25, 1914 in the Bronx, New York, son of the late Nathaniel and Lottie (Luball) Moore. He graduated in 1935 from City College of New York.
Mr. Moore spent nearly his entire career in the retail business. He began at Bloomingdale’s and worked up through the ranks to executive positions. He was Vice President and General Merchandise Manager of Lit Brothers in Philadelphia. In 1973, he became President of the former R.H. White Departments Stores in Worcester and Leominster. He retired in 1980.
In the 1960’s he chaired the Directors of the Home Furnishings Group of the National Retail Merchants Association. He had held many positions within this organization, the purpose of which was the enhancement and improvement of the art of retailing in the US. He chaired seminars and addressed the Annual National Convention of National Retail Merchants.
His memberships include: Former President of the Worcester Area Advertising Club, Chair of the Fr. Bissonette Invitational Golf Tournament at Assumption College, Director and Executive Chair of Worcester County Music Association, Steering Committee for the restoration of Mechanics Hall, former Director of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, Trustee of the Worcester Ballet Society, Worcester Art Museum, Advisory Board for the Salvation Army and the Retired Hirams of Worcester; Former President of the Millbury District Nurses, VP & Director of Tri-Valley Elder Home Care.
His love for the Town of Sutton was evident through his numerous involvements. He was Chair of the Sutton Housing Authority and Treasurer of the Sutton Council on Aging. He was still writing a weekly column, “Another Point of View” which is published in the Millbury-Sutton Chronicle Newpaper.
At Larry’s request there are no funeral services. A memorial observance will be held privately at his late residence, 55 Stone School Road, Sutton.
