Obituary

Paul Louis Adams, 89, of Anderson, Indiana passed away on August 27, 2021 at his home surrounded by family after fighting pancreatic cancer. Paul was born in Tobinsport, Indiana, on May 31, 1932, in the rural home of his parents Frank E Adams and Zylpha Weatherholt Adams. The 7th of 8 siblings, his family struggled through the Depression Era growing their food and livestock. While the Dust Bowl ravaged the West, their family home fell victim to the Ohio River Flood of 1937. They re-built the home and weathered huge losses to their 5-acre family farm.

Paul graduated from Cannelton High School, class of 1950. He moved to Indianapolis in the early 50’s for work, with his parents doing the same after all the children graduated. In February 1953 during the Korean War, Paul served the US Army for 2 years honorably. He was stationed at Fort Greenly, Alaska, a test site for artic warfare, where he worked in the office and was a skilled typist. In 1955 he returned to Indianapolis to study Electrical Technology at IUPUI, and he met and married Patricia Little in 1956. Paul received his Associates degree in 1959, and he and Pat moved to Anderson, Indiana and had 2 children. Paul worked for Delco Remy testing electrical systems from 1959 until his retirement in 1987. Pat and Paul were divorced in 1973 and Paul faithfully took his children every other weekend to do interesting things and helped them through college. Paul married Helen Beach Kline in 1980 and they shared 34 years together until her death in 2014. The last few years of Helen’s life, Paul was her dedicated caregiver as her health declined. In 2015 Paul became close with his dear friend, Dorothy Watson, sharing church functions and nightly dinners.

Paul was a devoted member of the Chesterfield Christian Church from the time he married Helen, also doing volunteer work there. Paul had many friends and loved card games, family Euchre tournaments, and he achieved Life Master at Contract Bridge. He enjoyed casino games and thoroughbred horse racing, with skill. Paul was very passionate about collecting coins, stamps, beer cans, and surface collecting artifacts. Paul was a skilled wood carver and an expert gardener; his tomatoes were widely appreciated.

Paul is survived by his children, Ronald R. Adams (Becky Troyer), Anita
Adams Sale (Mike) and his stepdaughter Kathy Sheppard (Dewayne); his grandchildren, Rosalie Adams, Claire Sale, Charlie Sale, and Kathy’s children, Lynn Watts (Eric) and Christy Watson (Greg); and his dear friend Dorothy Watson. Paul was loved very much!
