Thomas F. Helms, 90, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Abbeville, Georgia, with the Rev. Don Dixon officiating.
Mr. Helms was born April 16, 1931, in Rochelle, Georgia, to the late Harvey Leroy Hun & Bulah Fussell Helms. He managed a greenhouse and worked in the plant nursery business. He loved guns and shooting as well as fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered for the way he told a good joke. Mr. Helms was the best Dad and Granddad that ever walked. He loved everyone and was loved by all who met him. He was a Deacon in Zellwood, Florida and was a member of Prospect Baptist Church in Ben Hill County.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Alice Branch Helms of Fitzgerald, they had been together for 47 years. He is also survived by children and their spouses: Joy & Raymond Yon of Yulee, Florida, Michael & Gail Richardson of Townsend, Kristy & Sammie Karraker of Cordele, Frank & Miranda Helms of Fitzgerald; and Hunn & William Walker of Fitzgerald; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Blalock of Tifton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexis Helms as well as 19 brothers and sisters.
