Jean Lorraine Crandall Vos, age 88, of Preston died on August 25, 2021. She was born September 2, 1932 in New London to Arnold and Sybil Crandall. She proudly served in the US Navy (WAVES) from January, 1952 to September, 1955, where she traveled the world and married the love of her life, the late William H. Vos on June 25, 1955. She continued to serve the Navy from the private sector, retiring from Electric Boat in 1992.
Jean was a strong-willed, fiercely independent woman who taught all of her children and grand-children the meaning of ‘strength.’ She exemplified perseverance in the face of adversity and her family carries on that legacy today. She was filled with compassion for those around her and, through her actions, displayed a loyalty to her family that will never be forgotten. Jean loved children, embracing their innocence and wonder. She also loved animals, especially Dogs. Throughout her life there was always a 4 legged friend or child in her arms!
Jean is survived by five of her six children; Michael Vos, Tami Chapman, Bill Vos, Ellen Vos-Metiver and Stephanie Hunter. She is also survived by a sister, Gayle Corallino of Groton, 8 grandchildren, Shayne Vos, Rob and Brett Piscitello, Saona Jackson and Reynolds Chapman, Josh Vos, and Cassy and Vos Hunter and 10 great-grandchildren. Jean is predeceased by her son William Joseph Vos and grandson Kevin Vos.
Jean's family will greet relatives on Thursday, 9/2, from 5 to 7pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, 9/3 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Wightman Burial Ground, Cold Spring Road, Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's name may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and St. Jude Children’s hospital.
