Sheila Ann “Ma’am” (Duffy) Murphy, 83 of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Wingate of Belvidere after a long illness with her son by her side. She was the Navy widow of the late Terence P. Murphy, USN, who passed away in 1979.
Born April 9, 1938, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late James J. Duffy and the late Mildred E. (Irvin) Duffy, and was raised and educated in the Lowell schools, graduating from Lowell High School, class of 1956.
She made her home in Lowell and later Honolulu, Hawaii, Norfolk, Virginia and Virginia Beach, Virginia before residing in Chelmsford. She worked in documentation control for Apex in Chelmsford, retiring after over twenty years in the document manufacturing industry.
Family was always her first and foremost love and she was a loving mother, and doting grandmother, and especially loved time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Terence P. Murphy of Chelmsford, Margaret A. Murphy of Nashua, NH, and John F. Murphy of Chelmsford; her beloved grandchildren, Mark, Jessica, Jordan, Taylor, Jenna, Jamie and Therese; as well as her great grandchildren, Jack, Nora, Riley, Elizabeth, Sheila and Dylan; her brother, Daniel I. Duffy and his wife, Eileen, of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Ellen Driscoll (2015) and James M. Murphy (2016) and sister of the late James J. Duffy Jr. (1966), the late Mildred Wayne (2004), the late Francis W. Duffy (2018).
