Charles F. Mistretta, Jr.
Retired Massachusetts Department of Transportation Civil Engineer
TEWKSBURY: Charles F. Mistretta, Jr., age 73, a resident of Tewksbury for 30 years, and former member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
He was the beloved husband of Diane M. (Harris) Mistretta, with whom he celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on May 17th, 2021.
Born in Medford on November 2, 1947, he was the son of the late Charles F. Mistretta and the late Grace M. (Fowler) Mistretta.
Charles was raised in Medford, attended Medford schools and graduated from Medford High School.
He attended Tufts University, where he received a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering in 1969 and Northeastern University where he received a M. S. Degree in Civil Engineering, and he became a Massachusetts Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in 1991.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a Civil Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Transportation for 53 years.
In his spare time, Charles treasured spending time with his wife and family. In addition, he enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and going to concerts. He enjoyed listening to a wide range of music from various artists including the legendary Moody Blues, Eric Burdon & The Animals, and Pink Floyd.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Bret C. Mistretta of Hubbardston, Eric C. Mistretta and his wife Sara of Stoneham, and Michelle A. Mistretta of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren, Anthony R. and Alexander C. Mistretta; five sisters, Grace M. O’Connor and her husband Robert of Dracut, Joyce Mistretta of Melrose, Margaret White and her husband Dennis of Woburn, Patrice Ferraro and her husband Louis of North Andover, and Claire Toloczko and her late husband Steven of Stoughton. He is also survived by his niece, Colleen (White) Forrest, and nephews Jason Ferraro, Brian O'Connor, Timothy O'Connor and many extended family members.
Calling hours are Sunday, Aug. 29, from 3-5 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. A graveside service will be held Monday, Aug. 30th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd., Medford.
