LOWELL Joseph John “Joey” Bucchio, 68 of Lowell, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Lowell General Hospital after battling cancer.
On June 16, 1953, Joe was born to the late Emilio and Marion Louise (Beyea) Bucchio, and was raised in Tewksbury. After graduating from Tewksbury High School, he completed his undergraduate studies at Lowell State Teachers’ College (now Umass Lowell). His career in water treatment spanned multiple decades serving as a chemist for multiple municipal water departments in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. After retirement he served children as a food service provider in Lowell public schools.
Joe leaves behind a large family including children Justin Bucchio of New Jersey, Jessica Bucchio and wife Bri Goodell of Lowell; late son Jason Bucchio; grandson Cayne Lowe; siblings Eric, Philip, Jerry and Emil “Mimi” Bucchio, Emily Vielicka, Averill Waterhouse, Janice Abbott; late brothers Charles, Edwin, and Daniel Robbins; and numerous nieces and nephews including Goddaughters Heidi Beineke, Erica Mensch, and Mary Vieira. Joe is survived by countless friends, coworkers and loved ones including his cherished friend and former wife, Paula Richards (Bucchio).
Joe was a natural caregiver and supported his family and friends throughout his life. He is known for his sarcasm, whit, humor, and kindness. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed trips to concerts to see his favorite bands such as Pink Floyd perform. One of his most memorable experiences was attending Woodstock.

On Saturday, August 28, 2021, all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9-10 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6816.
His funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m.
Burial will take place in Lowell Cemetery.
