Mary “Evelyn” Dawson passed away at the age of 86, on August 22, 2021. She was born in Fitzgerald, GA, on July 2, 1935, to the late John and Ada Sewell. Evelyn married Julian Broome in November 1954, and they moved to Tallahassee, FL, in 1956. They lived there until 1976, then moved to Fitzgerald, GA, where they resided until Julian’s passing in 1980. In 1987, Evelyn married Eugene Dawson and they lived in Fitzgerald until 2005 where they moved to Tallahassee. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, summer vacations at the beach, watching baseball, and most of all spending time with her family whether it was in her home or at a family reunion. She had a beautiful smile, and a way of making everyone feel welcomed.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husbands, Julian Broome and Eugene Dawson, brothers Eugene Sewell and James Sewell, sister Louise Howell, daughter Teresa Bush (Andrew). She is survived by her sister, Betty Taylor, daughters Kathy Middleton (Gary) and Brenda Braswell, grandchildren Mandie Ackermann (Joe), David Anders (Ronni-Gayle), Austin Braswell (Jennifer), Abby Bush, Joye Bush, and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 351 Poppy Road, Ocilla, GA, 31774, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Pastor Dennis Young officiating.
