Dorothy M. (Silva) McGovern, of Lowell, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Lowell General Hospital. She was the widow of James J. McGovern, they were married 43 years before he passed away in 1998.
She was born in Lowell and was a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Migacz) Silva. She grew up in the Back Central Street neighborhood and graduated from Lowell High School.
She was an avid ballroom dancer, and a 40 year member of the SAC club. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. She worked in the local factories, beginning with Educator Biscuit, then Merrimack Magnetics, and she retired from Wang Laboratories.
She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Noyes of Lexington, NC, and Judith McGovern of Lowell; her grandsons, Mark DeLuca and his wife, Stacy of Somerville, SC, and Robert DeLuca and his wife, April of High Point, NC; her great grandchildren, Kevin Robert DeLuca, Collin James DeLuca, Makayla Rae Lyndes, Taylor Lynn DeLuca; and her sister in law Rosemary Silva of Lowell. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Gladys Silva, Anthony Silva Jr., and Thelma (Silva) Siaglo.
On Monday, August 30, 2021, you are invited to her memorial visitation from 10am until 12noon at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA, 978-458-6816.
Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 12noon followed by procession to St. Patrick Cemetery.
