Lucy "Merle" Coker Slater, 82, daughter of the late Tom and Lona Belle Coker, confident of God’s forgiveness through Christ’s death and resurrection, entered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, August 22, 2021.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Slater will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 28, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Cyril Denham, Joseph Denham, Chris Woodall, Cody Nolan, Ronnie Fields and Tommy Coker will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Slater was born in Ocilla on March 24, 1939. She loved spending time with family, they were the essence of her being. She was an avid fisherman and her happy place was being on the water with a pole in her hand. She loved traveling, camping and fishing with her family. If you knew her, you know she was an amazing person with a big heart and love for life.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slater was preceded by her husband, John Lamar Slater; her son, Terry Lamar Slater; her grandson, Brandon Farley Denham; her sister, Betty Ruth; her brother, Gerald; and her sister, Margie.
Mrs. Slater is survived by her children and their families, Pamela and Randy Denham and their children, Joseph and Cyril; Mike and Angie Slater and their children, Amanda, Alison, Chris and Eric and Paula Hines and her son Cody Nolan; her siblings, Nellie Mae, Peggy, Arthur and Harvey; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
