John F. Gorman
WWII Navy Veteran

TEWKSBURY: John F. “Johnno” Gorman, age 97, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

He was the beloved husband for over 67 years to the late Margaret V. (Hourihan) Gorman, who passed away on July 10, 2017.

Born on July 2, 1924, he was the oldest child of the late John and Catherine (McLaughlin) Gorman.

John was raised in Charlestown and graduated from Boston Latin High School.

In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Iowa.
He was awarded several decorations for his active-duty service including the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed by Massport at Logan Airport.
After his early retirement, John worked at the former Tattersall’s in Wilmington, then at Haffner’s in Tewksbury.

He was an avid reader and in his spare time loved working in his vegetable garden and tending to the beautiful impatiens he grew in his yard, but he mostly treasured the time he spent with his wife and family.

John is the father of Ann O’Hara and her late husband Jack, Patti McLennan and her husband Jack, and Nancy Maida and her husband Bob, all of Tewksbury. Grandfather of Jack O’Hara and his wife Sue, Kristy Forsythe and her husband T.J., Shaun McLennan and his wife Kim, Brian O’Hara and his wife Jen, Steven Maida and his wife Laura, and Jaime McLennan- Parziale and her husband Mike. Great Grandfather of Jack, Grace, Callie, Keegan, Rilyn, Bryce, Kensley, Brooklyn, Emily, Emersyn, and Trevor. John is survived by his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert Duerr of Methuen, John Hourihan, and Robert and Bette Mangano, all of Tewksbury; and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his siblings and their spouses, Margaret (Erwin) Fletcher, Helen (William) O’Keefe, Catherine Duerr, Thomas (Joan) Gorman, Sally (Richard) Zannino, James Gorman, and also his sister-in-law, Sally Hourihan.

Calling hours are Thursday, Aug. 26, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, to be followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Rd., Tewksbury.
