Obituary

Nease, Dr. Stephen W., 81, died Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Hillsboro, NH surrounded by his family.

Beloved husband of Christine (Hardy) Nease of NH. Loving father of Linda N. Scott of NH, Melissa Wallace of PA, Floyd of VT, Stephen Jr. of VA, David of VT and the late David Hardy. Brother of Helen Bradley of OK. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 niece and 2 nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday from 3-7 PM in the Wollaston Church of the Nazarene, 23 East Elm Avenue, Quincy and the funeral service Monday at 10 AM, at the Wollaston Church.

Burial to be held later at the family lot in OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in his name be made to the Stephen and Christine Nease Scholarships at any of the institutions where Dr. Nease has served. Dr. Stephen W. Nease, 81, died Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Hillsboro, NH, surrounded by his family. Born January 15, 1925, to Floyd and Madeline Nease, Mr. Nease was educated at Eastern Nazarene College, Brown University, and Harvard Divinity School. He and Mrs. Christine pastored Newark, Ohio, Eastside Church of the Nazarene. In 1996 he was elected founding president of Mount Vernon Nazarene College (now University). In 1972 he became president of Bethany Nazarene College (Now Southern Nazarene University), and in 1976 was elected president of Nazarene Theological Seminary, where he served until his election as president of Eastern Nazarene College in 1981. In 1989 he was elected by the International Church of the Nazarene General Board to serve as the first Commissioner of Education, a post he held until his retirement in 1994. Eastern Nazarene College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University conferred upon him Emeritus status. In retirement, Dr. Nease served in the Development Office at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, until moving to Southern New Hampshire in 2000. A popular speaker at Nazarene gatherings throughout the Church of the Nazarene, Dr. Nease invested in teaching and working with young people preparing for Christian ministry. An avid boater and fisherman, he particularly enjoyed spending time with family at his summer cottage on Vermont’s Lake Champlain.
