Janice A. (McGillis) Lowe, age 76, of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully, August 18, 2021 at her home. She was the loving wife for 57 years of Richard Lowe. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late William and Elaine (Wills) McGillis. Janice was raised in Roslindale and was a graduate of Roslindale High School. In 2014 she retired from the Brockton Postal Employee Credit Union after 26 years. Janice’s career path had some degree of history to it when times were simpler and less frenetic. She once served as a switchboard operator for Deaconess Hospital in Boston. That career path was put on hold when she had difficulty getting close enough to the switchboard while carrying her first child.
Janice’s greatest joys were being a wife, mother, and grandmother and being with the many friends she made over the years. She had a reputation for being both naughty and nice and loved any opportunity to be part of a social gathering with two or more people. She always tried to be the first to arrive and the last to leave. She was an active listener who shared both the joys and hardships of those she had the opportunity to know. Janice was a talented crafter and shared many hours with friends and relatives while knitting, crocheting, quilting, and enjoying sundry other activities. One of her passions was to provide a keepsake blankie quilt at every baby shower she attended. She loved to travel, with Maui being one of her favorite places on earth. Janice was also an active member in the Friendly Club, the Stitch n’ Bitch Club, the Hookers, the YMCA Swim Aerobics program, and the PRLACC club in Danvers.
In addition to her husband, Janice is survived by her children Tracey Lowe of GA and Richard Lowe of Bridgewater as well as two grandchildren Gina and David DiPietro. She was the sister of the late William McGillis of Norwood and the late Paula Hickey, Claire McLaughlin of Danvers, Elaine Spears of Dedham, Linda Wendell and her husband Frank of Bradford, Donna Comperchio of Dedham, Daniel McGillis and his wife Carol of Sarasota, Florida and her brother-in-law Eddie Hickey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, too many to name but she loved them all.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday, August 25, from 3-6pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 10:30am, followed by burial in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Janice’s name may be made to the Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Ste A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
