Robert “Bob” L. Casey, Sr. of Dedham and Centerville, died peacefully on August 17, 2021 at 89 years of age. Born in 1932 in Somerville, he was one of six children of Michael Joseph Casey and Mary Frances (Carroll) Casey, both natives of Ireland. For 61 years, Bob was the devoted and beloved husband of Kathleen A. Casey, who preceded him in death by only twelve days. He is mourned by his three sons and their families, Robert L. Casey Jr. of Denver, CO and his wife Anna, Michael F. Casey of Franklin and his wife Jennifer, and Sean C. Casey of Charlotte, NC and his wife Susan. He was deeply cherished as “Papa” by his six grandchildren: Rob, Caroline, Caitlin, Ashlyn, Anna, and Lily. He is also survived and remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Bob was a graduate and President of his class at Massachusetts State Teachers College, and earned a Master’s in Education from the University of Massachusetts. He was a beloved educator and administrator who dedicated 42 years of his life to the Brockton Public School system acting as Principal in several schools, including 27 years at the Downey Elementary school. He had a significant impact on the lives of so many children and teachers and his legacy lives on in all whom he met.
Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Monday, August 23 from 8:30–9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
