Peter Van Wart (04/20/1959-08/13/2021)
Peter Van Wart, Son of Robert and Charlotte Van Wart, brother of Richard, Robert & Paul and Father of James Van Wart, passed away Friday, August the 13th at Mass General Hospital in Boston. Peter was with his Son, James as well as his cousin Brian Tuohy up until his last seconds of life. In his early years, Peter spent much of his time at Wollaston Golf Club in Milton alongside his Mother and Father, who were both avid golfers and members at Wollaston. Peter not only proved to be a competent player but a supremely talented one. His dedication and drive for the sport created long lasting impressions on fellow members at Wollaston as well as close friends and family that would accompany him. Peter would go on to pursue the PGA in the mid 90's, taking him to places such as Hilton Head Island in South Carolina which is revered for having some of the finest courses in the country. It was in South Carolina that Peter truly felt at home; he would maintain this longing feeling to return even through his final days. Friends and colleagues in the Golf world would agree that Peter was certainly cut from a different cloth. His abilities on the course were nothing short of magic. Aside from his professional life, Peter had another gift - A huge heart and the gift of gab. He was a true social butterfly who loved to connect and win friends. His personality was something larger than life and his knack for entertaining and abundant energy was irresistible to most, making him a well-liked man with many great friends. Peter was a true giver. He would give you the shirt off his back if it made you happy even if it was all he had. Peter was also a dog lover. While living in Quincy, he adopted a dog from a nearby shelter and the two became the closest of friends through the years. Gato, a brindle Boxer-Shepherd "Heinz 57" mix would become his closest companion and travel with him mostly everywhere Peter went. Gato traveled with Peter back to South Carolina and to Daufuskie Island where the two would spend early sunrise mornings exercising, playing and training. He combined all of his gifts to provide Gato with an adventurous, healthy and exciting life in some of the most beautiful places one could imagine. James Van Wart, Peter's son, would join them on many of these adventures. Peter loved James and provided him with some of the most unforgettable experiences of his lifetime. Later, back in Boston, Peter did much volunteer work for the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes. He had an unremitting respect for our Military and families of those who served. He cared deeply for our country and believed in maintaining our support and respect for our veterans. Peter would jump at any opportunity to help someone even if it was to his own detriment. This was one of his defining qualities that most will remember him for. He was an excellent and hard worker but an even better friend at the end of the day. Peter will be missed by many but he did not pass in vain. He left us all with unforgettable memories, friendship and love. He fought hard for everyone around him up until the very end. We were all fortunate to have had Peter in our lives. He lived an all-encompassing life and prevailed through some of the hardest times with dignity and courage. A service for Peter will be announced to close family and friends in the near future. If you would like to come and show your support, share stories and join us in remembering Peter, we would love to see you there.
