Kenneth Wayne “Buddy” Evans, Sr., 79, of Sumner passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Donnie Wright and the Rev. Walt Thompkins officiating. Mr. Evans will be laid to rest at a later date with a private family burial at Pine Hill Baptist Church in Sumner. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 23, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. The family asks that all attendees of the funeral service wear a mask and observe COVID-19 guidelines.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Evans’ brother, Lindsey Evans, Mr. Evans’ sons, Kenneth Evans, Jr. and Keith Evans, and Jimmy Cross, Kenneth Brooks, Paul Leger, Bruce Gunn, Ralph Causey, Dallas Burger, Sr. and David Carter.
Born August 26, 1941, in Tifton, Mr. Evans was the son of the late Herman Lafate Evans and Pearl Apperson Evans. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Brown; four brothers, Charles Evans, Johnny Lee Evans, Ivey Evans and Ray Evans; and three sisters, Lynn Spires, Faye Hall and Debbie Evans. Before retiring, he was a convenience store manager and also worked for Flowers Baking Company and Ferrin Tree Service. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, where he was the Director of Brotherhood for 12 years.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Jackie Price Evans of Sumner; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth Wayne Jr. and Rachel Evans of Mitchell County, Kevin Evans of Augusta and Keith and Caroline Evans of Omega; two daughters and one son-in-law, Pam Evans and Jennifer and Michael Dees, all of Sumner; one brother and sister-in-law, Lindsey and Shirley Evans of Tifton; 13 grandchildren, Ernie McMillan, Kenny Evans, Ashley Bristol, Missy Evans, Kayla Evans, Casey Evans, Shaun McMillan, Kristen Brown, Sydney McKendree, Shannon Brown, Justin Dees, Jacob Evans and Jaden Evans; and 16 great-grandchildren.
