Joseph Arthur Leger, Jr., 91, of New Bedford passed Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from complications due to Parkinson’s disease. Art was the beloved husband of Dolores “Lou” (Cardoza) Leger. He was the son of the late Joseph Arthur and Florence (Breault) Leger and brother to Elise Fatula and Renee Leger.
In addition to his wife and siblings, he is survived by his children, Sandra Leger Silva, Brenda Francis, Robert Leger and Catherine Leger; his grandchildren, Alyssa Francis, Robert Leger Jr., and Kristy Silva; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and all their respective spouses and companions.
In his youth, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a crash fire fighter at Ladd AFB in Alaska. He was a retired UA member of Local 51 Plumbers and Pipe fitters. He was always taking on projects around the house and helping family and friends with their home repairs as well.
Art loved to be by the water or on the sea, boating and fishing. He had a passion for vintage aircraft and attended many air shows. He spent hours watching hockey and coached youth hockey as a younger man. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebratory Mass on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in New Bedford, followed by burial services at Pine Grove Cemetery.
