Bill Smith, 86, of Ventura passed away peacefully at his home on August 15, 2021. Bill was born on March 20, 1935 in West Salem, Ohio to Wilbur and Nina Smith. It was in West Salem that he met the love of his life, Annette Nelson. They were married on June 15, 1958 a couple of days after Bill had graduated from Ohio State with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. While at Ohio State, he was in the ROTC and after graduation was in active duty in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant.
After his honorable discharge in 1961 from the U S Army, Bill started working for Schlumberger Oil Well Services. He retired as a District Manager in Bakersfield in 1990. During the almost 30 years, Bill and Annette and their family were transferred from one location to another for the company and lived in many states. They made wonderful friendships and memories along the way.
Bill enjoyed playing golf and bridge with his friends and family; trips to Chumash Casino; and was an avid reader.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Annette, twin brother Bobby Smith of Ohio; and their sons Deric (Carol) and Edward Guy. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Bryan (Danielle), Brett, Robert (Glen), and Katelyn Smith, and great-grandchildren Max and Astrid Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers Eugene and Herbert and sister, Susan Morris; son, Chip and grandson, Anthony.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caretakers and hospice workers from Access TLC for their dedicated care during his final days, especially Sandra.
A date for a memorial service is pending at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
