LOWELL Guadalupe B. (Bettencourt) Leal, 85, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Lowell General Hospital. She had shared Fifty Seven years of Marriage with her late husband, Jose C. Leal who died in 2014.
A daughter of the late Francisco Espinola and the late Emilia Espinola, she was born November 18, 1935, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and was raised and educated in that area. In 1975, she moved to the United States with her family, making her home in Lowell and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.
She loved working around the house, especially in her garden and always loved to crochet and work needlepoint, but especially enjoyed cooking, and enjoyed watching the cooking channels. Time spent with family was her favorite thing to do, especially when she spent time with her grandchildren.
She worked as a stitcher in the area Mills, primarily for Paris Shoe. She then worked in the electronics industry in Burlington before working for Joan Fabrics until her retirement.
Her survivors include her son, Serafim Leal and his wife, Georgina, of Lowell; her grand son, Kevin Leal and his wife, Heather, of Salem, NH; her grand daughter, Stephanie Leal and her fiancee, Kevin Neveu, of Lowell; her great grandson, Alexander 'Alex' Leal of Salem, NH; her great grand daughter, Lillyana ‘Lilly’ Welch of Lowell; her sister, Teresa Silva of Canada; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Luzia Bettencourt, Manuel Espinola, and Albert Espinola.
