Obituary

Robert J. Mahoney 93, a longtime resident of Whitman, died Tuesday August 17. He was the beloved husband of Frances T. (Deehan) Mahoney and the late Barbara A. (Merrow) Mahoney.

Born in Brockton he was the son of the late Helen and J. Joseph Mahoney.

Robert had proudly served overseas in the US Navy from 1946-1948.

Prior to his retirement he had worked over 50 years as a tool & die maker and later a tool designer for Whitman Tool & Die.

A loyal communicant of the Holy Ghost Church, Bob served as an usher for 7:30AM Mass, where each week he greeted parishioners with a hug or a warm hand shake.

He enjoyed working around his home and yard, and took great pride that he had himself designed his Washington Street home. He was an amazingly talented woodworker where “down cellar” he made everything from furniture to the wooden toys for his grandsons, as well as bird houses and countless other creations, but his greatest joy was spending time with family.

In addition to his loving wife Frances, he is survived by his children Daniel R. Mahoney and his wife Holly and Deborah I. Loycano and her husband Vincent, his grandsons Matthew Woods and his husband Alex and Brett Loycano and his wife Olivia, his step-children Nancy Gorman, Matthew Olsen and his wife Suzanne, Thomas Olsen and his wife Dorio and Meryl Savageau and her husband Norman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Florence Keras, Agnes Brennan, Helen Vaughan and Ann Tonello.

All his services will be private.
