NATICK: Jennie Mae (Maloy) Hayes, 94, died peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2021 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Gardner on July 6, 1927 the daughter of the late William Albert Maloy and Flora (Sykes) Maloy.
Jennie was the beloved wife for 58 years of the late Warren E. Hayes who died on September 4, 2007.
She is survived by her devoted children, Mark W. Hayes and Mary Ellen Hayes both of Natick and Anne F. Hayes and her husband Michael Grillo of Penobscot, Maine. Jennie was preceded in death by her daughter Jane in September 2010. She was the cherished grandmother of Harry Grillo of Penobscot, Maine, Quinn Grillo of Colorado, Julie Low of Chelmsford and Karyn Low of Waltham. Also survived by two great-grandchildren, two nieces and five nephews. Jennie was the sister of the late Nellie Bates, Mary Maloy and William Arthur Maloy.
She spent her formative years in Gardner and has resided in Natick for over 68 years. She graduated from Templeton High School and received her art degree from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston.
For many years, Jennie was a Librarian with Sun Life in Wellesley and retired after many years as a Librarian with the Middlesex News, now known as the Metrowest Daily News.
She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting with oils whenever she had the opportunity. She enjoyed gardening and loved spending hours walking the beach, especially with her metal detector.
Jennie was a longtime member of the Community United Methodist Church in Cochituate and was involved with the United Methodist Women, was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. She and Warren also enjoyed many years of activities with the Couples Club of the church. She was devoted to her Christian faith and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone or to volunteer for whatever was needed at the church.
Her family was the most important aspect of her life and she enjoyed the time spent with them and memories that they created and shared together. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to her family and will be greatly missed.
Memorial visitations will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt. 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Community United Methodist Church, 5 Damon St, Cochituate Village, Wayland. Interment for her family will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, her family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Jennie’s memory may be sent to the Community United Methodist Church.
