Obituary

Joanne (Wright) Gordon, 78, of Hyannis, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Dennis Gordon who died in July 2020. She and Dennis enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage together.

Born in Union, New Jersey on March 31, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Franklin T. and Alice L. (Gates) Wright.

Joanne was a resident of Hyannis since 2003 and had formerly resided in Medway for many years. She attended Keene State College for 2 years and graduated from American International College in Springfield, MA in 1961 earning her Bachelor’s Degree.

Joanne worked as a social worker in Springfield from 1961-1968 and later managed the day care program at Silvers Gym in Franklin for 15 years prior to moving to Hyannis.

She is survived by two sons, Steven Gordon and his girlfriend Melissa Smith of Boston and John Gordon and his wife Judith of Cohasset and three grandchildren, Anne, John, and Nicholas Gordon. She was the mother of the late James Gordon.

She is also survived by her twin sister Judi Dunklee of South Yarmouth, her brother Daniel Wright of Medfield and many nieces and nephews.

Joanne loved music and singing and was a member of the Dennis-Yarmouth Senior Center Choral Group and a former member of the Millis Community Chorale. She loved spending time with family, including active involvement with the Boy Scouts with son James, an avid supporter of all three boys’ baseball teams, and traveling frequently with her family to Florida, Cape Cod, and Myrtle Beach. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she delighted in their constant entertainment including their musical concerts and school activities. She also enjoyed annual trips to Longboat Key, FL with her sister and mother.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour on Tuesday, August 17 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Medway.
