Obituary

DOCKHAM, Edward J. of Dedham MA, died peacefully at home on August 12, 2021. He was 89 years old. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Galvin) Dockham and the late Mary C. (O’Daly) Dockham, father to Mary D. Amara, Edward J. and his wife Ellen, Robert G. and his wife Jo Ellen, and Diane M. Gonzales and her husband Robert. Edward was the proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also predeceased by his sister Elizabeth (Dockham) Simensen.

Ed was born on September 12, 1931 to the late Russell E. Dockham and Esther (Burke) Dockham. He grew up in Everett MA. After high school, he served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. He served as a Radioman on the USS Porter during the Korean War and during the Porter’s around the world cruise. After serving his country, he attended Northeastern University and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. He went on to have a very successful career as a sales engineer at Gil Moore & Co.

Throughout life, Ed had a passion for boating. He was a member of the United States Power Squadron. His family will forever have loving memories of summers spent at the Cape Cod family cottage in Yarmouth, MA where days were spent boating, waterskiing, fishing, and sailing. He and his first wife Mary loved spending vacations cruising throughout the Caribbean. He was a loving, supportive father who will be sadly missed.

During retirement, Ed enjoyed the winter months at Harbor Lights Club in St. Petersburg, FL with his wife Mary. They enjoyed socializing, boating, and traveling with their many friends.

He was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight, did charitable works, and played the trumpet in the Klassy Clowns. He was also a member of The VFW and The American Legion.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM on Sunday, Aug. 15 from 4-8pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 16 at 8am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 9am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45pm.
