Allen N. "Pappy" Manley, passed away at home on August 13, 2021 in Dartmouth. He was the husband of 60 years to Nancy C. (Keith) Manley. Together they owned and operated Alderbrook Farm until December, 2019. He was the son of the late Geneva E. (Manley) Waybrant.
He was a firefighter for Dartmouth Fire District #2 from the age of 14 until his retirement as Chief in 2002. Allen graduated from Dartmouth High School and worked in agriculture at Barney's Joy Farm, Little Sunswick Farm, Horseneck and Sylvan Nurseries. He was also a skilled carpenter/woodworker, had been a lobster fisherman and at one time a plumber's assistant. Allen was the 4th generation owner of Alderbrook Farm in Russells Mills Village, with the 5th, 6th & 7th generations currently working to carry on his tradition. He loved animals and could often be found caring for the farm's animals including his beloved oxen.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Farm Bureau, Dartmouth Historical & Arts Society, Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries, Russells Mills Engine Company, Dartmouth Grange No. 162, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Dartmouth Heritage Trust and the Wylde Center.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 3 children: daughter, Carol Fish and her husband Brad of Acushnet; son Allen "Sam" Manley, Jr. and his wife Julie of Westport; and daughter Sharon Dorian and her husband Steven of Fairhaven. Allen had eight grandchildren: Shawn, Michelle, Brandon, Rebecca, Tucker, Isaiah, Meghan and Emily; 10 great grandchildren and awaiting the addition of 3 more. He also has 4 surviving cousins: Thomas Manley, Elizabeth Morgado, Charles Manley and Marjorie Turner.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Sunday, August 15, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home at 6:00 P.M.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 - 6 P.M. prior to the service.
At the family's request, interment will be private.
