Rachel Loring (West) Jones passed away peacefully at home in Boylston at the age of 85. Raised in Pembroke, MA, she was the daughter of the late Loring Gilbert West and Doris Winsor West.
She received her degree in education from Colby College where she met her future husband, Jerry. They married in 1959 and lived in West Boylston, where she was an elementary school teacher. Two years later they purchased their 200 year old home in Boylston, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion of antiques and anything "old." Rachel spent years restoring their home and collecting antiques, getting her home to look just the way she wanted.
Jerry introduced Rachel to the game of golf, a sport she loved and continued to play her whole life. She was a member of Worcester Country Club and Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she won multiple tournaments, and even carded a hole-in-one.
An avid gardener and former president of the Boylston Garden Club, Rachel spent hours planting and caring for her flowers. She loved skiing, traveling, and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Boylston, where she sang in the choir.
More than anything else, she cherished her time with her family and friends, whether it be vacationing on Cape Cod, celebrating a birthday or anniversary, going to her kids sporting events, or just cooking for the family at home. Any day was a good day to get together.
Her smile was infectious, her laugh could turn a bad day to good, and her sarcastic wit, a Jones Family trait, remained with her until the end, and will be dearly missed.
Rachel is survived by her husband Gerald K. Jones, and her sons; Stephen G. Jones and his wife Ann and their children, Bethany and Christopher of Shrewsbury, Brian L. Jones and his wife Kristine and their children, Justin and Haley of Holden and Darren K. Jones and his wife Kathleen and their son, Ryan, of Holden.
She is also survived by her brother Richard Winsor West, his wife Elaine of Pembroke and three nephews.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Family Tree Healthcare and Salmon Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church of Boylston on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 1:00pm. The burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Congregational Church of Boylston.
