Corinne Kravitz, of Millis, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 6th, after a period of failing health. She was 90 years old.
Corinne was born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Paul and Pauline (Proctor) Sterling. During her father's career as a Navy officer, Corinne lived in various places in the country. But home to her was always Pine Point, Maine. She graduated from Deering High School in Portland, then the Modern School of Fashion and Design in Boston. After graduation she moved to New York City and lived there for her next ten years, working for National Airlines. National offered excellent employee travel benefits and Corinne was able to visit many great cities around the world. Two of her favorite locations were Hong Kong and Hawaii.
It was during her time at National Airlines that she met the love of her life and husband of 58 years, Ernest Kravitz. While their backgrounds shared few similarities, their mutual love, respect and devotion carried them through the happiest of marriages. Ernie's strong devotion to Corinne was especially clear in these last few years while Corinne struggled with dementia and he lovingly cared for her in every aspect of her life.
Corinne and Ernie moved in 1968 to Pleasant Street in Millis with their two young children and became involved in local activities. Over the years, Corinne volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Little League, the Library, the Millis Historical Commission, the Council on Aging, during town elections, and for over 25 years, with the Meals on Wheels program. She was especially proud to live in the little section of Millis called Rockville. She and her neighbor and friend, Susan Connelly, were the creators and organizers of the long-standing neighborhood parties known as the Rockville Rallies. Throughout many years, Corinne and Susan planned the very successful summer Rallies in the park at the Rockville Fire Station, and the Christmas parties at the Rockville Chapel.
While she stayed busy and enjoyed so many volunteer activities and so many wonderful friends, her greatest joy was her family. Known to her family as "Kinney," she leaves behind her husband Ernie, and their two children, a son Mark and his wife and daughter, Audrey and Alicia, and a daughter, Amy and her husband and son, Mark, and Matthew. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Barbara Sterling and Rhoda Kravitz, nieces and nephews, Sara Salisbury and Paul and Annie Sterling, as well as great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Sterling, her brothers-in-law, Gerald and Stanley Kravitz, and a nephew, James Salisbury.
Burial will be at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Millis. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that in honor of Corinne, you do something kind for a neighbor and/or for your community.
Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
