Madeleine A. Faenza passed away on August 6th at her home surrounded by family, she was 90 years old.
A resident of Franklin for over 60 years, she was born in Gardner, Massachusetts to Alice (McGee) & Oliver Lange. After high school she attended the School of Nursing at St. Elizabeth’s Home in Brighton. She worked at the Boston Floating Hospital for Children and Athol Memorial Hospital where she met her husband, Louis. They were married in 1955 and moved to Franklin. Here they would stay and raise two sons Paul & Peter. Madeleine continued working in nursing at the Wrentham State School & Franklin Nursing Home.
She was an accomplished pianist and made sure her sons learned the piano at an early age. Her and Louis drove cross country in their 70’s, travelled to Europe and loved Cape Cod.
A longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Parish she was President of the Catholic Women’s Club, taught Religious Education and served as the organist and choir director.
Volunteering in her community was important to her from driving folks to appointments, counting votes on Election Day or teaching English literacy at the Franklin Library. Later in life she would play the piano for the Silvertones, visiting senior centers and nursing homes throughout the area. She loved music and attended concerts from Carnegie Hall to Boston’s Symphony Hall and Tanglewood. She even attended a few rock concerts in her day.
She loved her gardens, birdwatching, walking with friends, bicycling and teaching children about nature. Madeleine loved the beach, having the opportunity to spend a week at Hampton Beach with her family just prior to her illness. When she was able, she would swim at the YMCA or a friend’s pool.
She is survived by her two sons; Paul and his wife Brigid and Peter; and proud grandmother of Alice & Mary.
