Lucy (Roman) Rivera, 83, of New Bedford died August 4, 2021 peacefully in her sleep.
Born in Loiza, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Inocancio and Blasina (Roman) Roman, she was raised in New York and lived in New Jersey before moving to New Bedford in 1984.
She enjoyed music, dancing, soap operas, gardening, going out, feeding and helping others.
Survivors include her significant other, Angel Luis Cass Ortiz of New Bedford; her daughter, Elsa Maldonado of New Bedford; 4 sons, Angel Rivera and his wife Terry of New Bedford, Israel Rivera and his wife Sol of New Jersey, Jesus Vargas and his wife Madeline Domingas of New Bedford and Julio Alicea of Florida; a brother, Hector "J.R." Burgos of New Jersey; several grandchildren including Venus Serene Cardona, Xavier Cardona and Caesar E. Cardona, who she raised; several great-grandchildren including Jovani and Jalyah; and several nieces and nephews including Lydia Carrasquillo Roman and Taina Luz Ramos, who she raised.
She was the sister of the late Carmen Roman, Sara Ortiz, Eldirmina Nieves, Luis Roman, Bobby Burgos and John Burgos.
Her visiting hours will be held on Saturday, August 7th from 5-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
