Obituary

CHICOPEE – Michael Adam “Smiles” Boutilier, 9, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 in his home after his second courageous battle with cancer surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. Michael was born in Springfield on May 20, 2012, a beloved son of Adam and Nicole (Chartier) Boutilier. He was a student at Streiber Elementary School in Chicopee who loved music, superheroes, the color blue, building LEGO’s, swimming, playing soccer and basketball and playing video games with his brothers. Michael was known for his contagious smile and positive outlook on life, which touched the lives of so many. We are so thankful that Michael was able to complete his bucket list which created so many fun and wonderful memories for him and his family. In addition to his loving parents, Adam and Nicole, he is survived by his brothers, Jason and Nathan; his paternal great-grandparents, Richard and Marilyn (Bailey) Niedbala of Hadley; his grandparents, Margaret “Peggy” (Gaudet) Chartier of Myrtle Beach, SC and Charles and Sandra (Trott) Boutilier of Chicopee; his aunts and uncles, Christopher Chartier and his partner, Benjamin McEvoy, of Washington, D.C., Andrea and Jake Denoncour of Honolulu, HI and Erica and Ken Fry of Wyckoff, NJ; as well as his cousins, Lillian, Kaidence, Hudson, Isla, Griffin and Estelle. He was predeceased by his maternal great-grandparents, Marcel J. and Joyce E. (Devine) Gaudet. His Funeral will be held on Thursday morning, August 12, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will be private at Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear. In honor of Michael’s love of the color blue, his family encourages everyone to wear anything blue to his services. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to any of the following organizations that have helped Michael’s family tremendously during their journey: Baystate Children’s Hospital, The Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana Farber, the Devin Laubi Foundation, LukeStronger or Griffin’s Friends.
