Obituary

Ethel M. Ahrendt, 94, died April 3, 2006 at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, NH. Ethel was born on January 27, 1912 in Dubuque IA, the daughter of the late Harry and Etta Ozel Ahrendt. Ethel's family moved to New Hampshire when she was a young girl. Ethel was educated in Nashua schools and was a graduate of Nashua High School.

Ethel worked for many years for the Social Security Administration, first in Baltimore MD and then later in Manchester and Nashua NH. Following her retirement in 1967, Ethel moved to Temple NH. She resided in Temple until 1992 when a fall in her home necessitated a move to the Inn at Deerfield, an assisted-living facility in Deerfield NH. As Ethel's health declined in recent months, she entered the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

Ethel was a long-time Girl Scout leader in the Nashua area; she also enjoyed gardening and travel. Ethel was a loving caregiver to her mother until her mother's death in 1980. Ethel and her mother loved to work the grounds and garden at their home in Temple, called Juniper Hill.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff at the Inn at Deerfield, who were so attentive and kind to Ethel during her almost 15-year residence at the Inn. The family is also grateful to the nursing and hospice staff at Rockingham who eased Ethel's passing.

Ethel was predeceased by her sister Joy Ahrendt Herriot of Concord MA and her brothers Wallace of Hudson NH and Milton of Nashua NH. Ethel is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Richard Ahrendt of Homewood IL, Jane Ahrendt Batts of Andover MA, Scott Herriott of Fairfield IA, Nancy Herriott Chartier of Concord MA, and David Ahrendt of Derry NH.

A private memorial service is planned by the family at a later date. Donations in Ethel's memory can be made to the Inn at Deerfield, 34 Ridge Road, Deerfield, NH 03037.
