Obituary

Peter James Conley of Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, beloved and treasured son of James and Christine Conley, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on July 14, 2021. He was born on February 4, 1977 and lived his early life in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, where he showed promise as a gifted student as a very young child, reading fluently at three and a half years of age. His primary love throughout his early years, however, was mathematics, at which he excelled.

Peter began his education at The Park School in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he delighted in the creative and personalized education he received from many outstanding teachers.  In 1986, he moved with his family to Ohio, before moving again in 1989, this time to Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended The Westminster Schools, graduating in 1995. He went on to study at Yale College, graduating in 1999 with a degree in Chemistry. Peter completed his formal education at St. Louis University School of Medicine, graduating in 2004.

Peter was a great-great grandson of California pioneer, Domingo Zanone, who settled in Northern California in the mid-1800’s and became a highly successful businessman and cattle rancher. One of Peter’s most enjoyable experiences as a young boy was fly fishing with his grandfather on one of the family ranches, which borders the Pacific Ocean.

Peter was a devoted fan of the Boston Bruins, an enthusiastic attendee of live theatre and the Boston Speaker Series, and an avid world traveler. He particularly enjoyed attending special events and concerts with his close friend and cousin, Beth Bond.

Throughout his life, Peter remained close to his large, extended family in the Boston area, where he lived most recently.  His family and friends will remember Peter for his generosity, his engaging sense of humor, his quick wit and love of learning. He will be greatly missed by all his closely knit family, especially his parents, who loved him dearly.

Besides his parents, Peter is survived by his aunts, Carol Fitzgerald (James) of Dedham, Massachusetts;  Eleanor Pooree (Doug) of Rio Vista, California; Jane Carpenter of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; and Mary Conley of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; and his uncle, John J. Conley (Alice) of Norton, Massachusetts. Peter is also survived by numerous cousins and lifelong friends, including William R. Stewart Jr. of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  Peter was predeceased by his grandparents, James and Eleanore Conley of Dedham, Massachusetts; Helen Q. Zanone of Eureka, California; and Joseph E. Zanone of Ferndale, California; and his uncles, Paul J. Conley of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; Timothy J. Zanone of Petrolia, California; and Anthony E. Zanone of Arcata, California.

No services will be held currently. A memorial Mass for close family will be celebrated at a later date.  Those wishing to honor Peter’s memory are kindly asked to consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, or The Park School, 171 Goddard Avenue, Brookline, Massachusetts 02445.
