Mary “Pat” Peterson, passed away on August 1st, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Charlestown on February 1st, 1931 to Mary (Flavin) and Patrick Carmody from Ireland. Beloved wife of the late Carl F. Peterson. Loving mother of Cathleen Macrelli and her husband Donald of Dorchester, Carl Peterson and his wife Kim of Athol and Chris Peterson and his wife Sharon of Westport, CT. Loving grandmother of Ethan, Sarah, Ryan and the late David. Loving great grandmother of Jaidyn and Nathan. Dear sister of the late Edward Carmody. Pat was raised in the Winter Hill section of Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1949. Pat married her childhood sweetheart Carl in 1956 and they settled in Medford where they raised their three children. Pat’s children were her pride and joy. She bragged to everyone about them and fostered humanitarian endeavors in all of them. As a mother, she provided a warm and loving home that seemed to always be full of kids, neighbors and family that she was constantly feeding. Pat was the next Julia Child. She studied and sang opera as a young woman and was always filling her house with music and song. Throughout her life, Pat enjoyed singing in the Immaculate Conception Church Choir, traveling to Ireland to visit her family and studying cake decorating. Pat was a grand storyteller in the old Irish tradition. She loved to regale her friends and especially her grandchildren with stories of her youth and life experiences. Her proudest accomplishment was belonging to the fellowship of AA. She was a friend of Bill W. for almost 34 years. . Her family is planning a celebration of life to be held at a later date that will fully honor her extraordinary life. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Thursday August 5th at 11 AM. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, Pat would have loved her family and friends to instead go out and get a “bite to eat” and share some memories , laughter and good stories.
