Doris (Bliven) O'Brien Smith, 87, of New Bedford died Wednesday April 5, 2006 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Francis K. O'Brien and Raymond E. Smith.
Born in Lowell, the daughter of the late William and Mary-Ellen (Hindley) Bliven, she was raised in Lincoln, R.I. and lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. O'Brien Smith was formerly employed as a salesperson for Peerless and Outlet at the Dartmouth Mall and at Robert Hall in Dartmouth.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda M. Reed of Westport, Mary-Ellen Wiggins of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathleen O'Brien Ezemoli of Marina del Ray, CA.; a son, Richard F. O'Brien of Coventry, R.I.; her close friend, Joseph Desrosiers of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Marion B. Lannon, Grace Keefe Quinn, and William F. Bliven.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday April 8, 2006 at 10 AM in St. Lawrence Church, 565 County St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Her family will receive visitors at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Saturday morning 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM, prior to the Funeral Mass.
