Obituary

Doris Kilpatrick (Dodie) Collin, 87, of Ventura, California, passed away on July 24, 2021 in her home in the Ventura Keys. Doris was born in Norristown Pennsylvania to Alexander (Lex) D. and Elizabeth (Betty) C. Kilpatrick on May 8, 1934. She went to Norristown High School and graduated in 1952.

Aside from raising two beautiful children and managing a household, she volunteered with multiple community and private organizations:

Welcome Wagon, Downers Grove, IL and Nashua, NH.
Assistance League, San Fernando Valley and Ventura, CA
Pet Assistance, and Actors and Others for Animals. San Fernando, CA
Pacific Corinthian, Oxnard, and Ventura Yacht Club,Ventura, CA

As a teenager she competed in the National Tennis Championship and went on to teach lessons to many ametuer players. Her compassion for animals started at an early age ¬- she rescued many baby wild animals, from a motherless tree squirrel (Hopper) to a hybrid bobcat/domensticated cat (Spooky) to a crow (Hawkeye) who was lacking tail feathers. She enjoyed hosting dinners with friends, boating the open seas and traveling far reaches of the world with her husband of 67 years. She was an avid gardener and had the knack to get orchids to bloom season after season. Doris was a dynamic and lively woman who lit up the room with her extraordinary smile and generous spirit.

Doris is survived by her husband, Kenneth S. Collin, Sr. of Ventura, CA, her son Kenneth S. Collin Jr., of Ojai, CA, her daughter Cindy D. Straney of Valencia, CA, her grandson and great grandaughter Ian L. and Chanel L. Greenberg of Ventura, CA, and her nephews William L. and Kevin W. Paige of Harleysville and Schwenksville, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Loius J. Paige.
