Alexander V. “Alex” Zaleski, a longtime Needham resident died on Sunday, April 2 at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston. He was 80 years old. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Mr. Zaleski married his wife Anna V. (Malaszewska) on September 15, 1947. In July of 1951 Mr. And Mrs. Zaleski immigrated to the United States via New York. Alex worked for the town of Needham Planning Dept. for many years. He also served as chairman of the Needham Planning Board. Mr. Zaleski also served as Planning Director for the Town of Lexington. He was Executive Director of Southeastern Regional Plannong and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). After his retirement he continued to work on a freelance basis as a land surveyor right up until he was hospitalized a few weeks ago. The beloved husband for 58 years of Anna V. (Malaszewska) and the father of Eugenia Z. Martens and her husband William A. Martens of Concord and the late Edward W. Zaleski. Brother of Renate Natalia Netch. Grandfather of Taylor W. Martens of Concord. He was the uncle of Alex Niechayev and Tania Strishak.
A Memorial service will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Tuesday April 11 at 1:0 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Needham.
