Eugene W. Asselin, age 86, passed away on July 18, 2021 with his wife of 61 years and son at his side. Born and raised in Chicopee, he was the son of the late Aurele and Adele (Archambeau) Asselin. He attended Chicopee trade school and went on to work for 45 years at Danaher Tool Co where he also served as a trustee for Local Teamster Union 22804. He entered the US Army at age 18 but was honorably discharged due to a leg injury suffered four years earlier. He also served as a Moose Legion Member for the Family Moose Center and also a member of the Chicopee Tigers Club. As an avid Red Sox fan, he waited 69 years to see his team finally win the World Series in 2004. Gene and Dolly also spent over 40 years at their favorite summer vacation spot in Wildwood, NJ. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dolores "Dolly" Asselin of Chicopee, his son, Craig and his wife Diane of Ballston Lake, NY; Brother-in-law, Wilfred Maiolo of East Longmeadow and Sister-in-law Elvira Buteau of Chicopee along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Robert W. Asselin, Sr. and his sister Theresa Asselin Caputo. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 6th, 2021 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 from 9:00 AM at the Grise Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St Rose de Lima Church. A committal service will take place at St Rose de Lima Cemetery following the service.
