Lorraine Marie Orth, 73, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts died on July 25, 2021, at the Life Care Center in West Bridgewater where she found respite from her battle with cancer, supported by her loving family and friends.
Lorraine was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on August 5, 1947. She was the daughter of the late Laurence and Edith Smith of Holbrook.
She was the faithful and loving wife of the late James Orth of East Bridgewater, where they nurtured and raised their two sons, the late James Michael Orth of Carver and Thomas Orth of East Bridgewater.
She spent her early years in the German-Town section of Quincy before moving to a life of adventure in the grove section of Holbrook. She enjoyed scouting, roller-dancing, and singing with the glee-club. She attended Holbrook High School (art minor), attained her G.E.D., and completed an associate degree from Quincy College in 1998. Her early employment was in the bakery business, and after raising her young sons, she worked a variety of jobs from school bus driver to supervisor for the Brockton Housing Authority. She loved the adventure of both camping and sailing. Lorraine and Jim retired to Georgia where she was active in state politics, enjoyed creative endeavors with the local poetry group, and spent many hours RV-ing the countryside. Returning to Massachusetts, she most recently had been a business consultant to Wicked Famous Productions and an administrative assistant at Tommy Raines Music. Lorraine loved to get together with life-long friends, be close to her family, see live music, and dance with new friends.
She is survived by her son Tommy, her sister Judy Smith of Canton, brother Frank Smith and his wife Jeannie of Wakefield, sister-in-law Marcia Smith of Abington (wife of the late brother Larry Smith), and her grandchildren who were all a source of pride and joy; James Joshua Orth of Carver, Jordan Orth of Carver, Charlotte and Jillian Orth of Bourne, as well as her daughters-in-law Debbie Orth of Carver and Gail Bossi of Carver. Her many nieces and nephews will miss her entertaining facebook postings. She leaves behind a legacy of adventure, creativity, humor, kindness, and deep love and support of family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Friday August 6 from 5-8 PM, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 8 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
