STANDISH - Richard O. Sakker, age 72, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2021, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, with his wife by his side.
He was born in Rahway, N.J. on September 11, 1948, the son of the late Oscar and Eleanore (Robinson) Sakker and graduated from N.J. schools. Later he graduated from SMTC in South Portland, Maine.
Richard proudly served his country in the US Army and served in Vietnam. Afterwards he served in the National Guard and continued through out his life as a proud American.
His working career was as a heavy equipment operator with Public Works in NJ and also as a rural mail carrier with the US Postal Service in Vermont. He will always be remembered as a wonderful man who enjoyed shooting, fishing and being a history buff - especially with wartime history. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Windham, ME and also the VFW.
Richard is predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Fujimoto. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Sakker, of 39 years. His sister Debbi Brown and her husband Scott of Lonedell, MO. His nieces Coleen Callaghan and her husband Tommy and Debbie Mae Lindell. His nephew Daniel Lindell and his great nephews, Kenny and Ryan Callaghan and William Lindell. Also, his brother-in-law Joseph Tobia. A memorial service will be determined at a later date.
