Obituary

Joan M. (Gomes) Almeida, 76, of New Bedford died April 4, 2006 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a long courageous battle with heart disease.
She was the wife of the late Pedro A. Almeida.
Born in Jamaica Plain, Boston, she lived in Acushnet and New Bedford most of her life.
Mrs. Almeida was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
She was formerly employed by the Acushnet Company for 37 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Almeida was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing Scrabble at the Acushnet Senior Center.
Survivors include 6 sons, Pedro Almeida, Jr. of Boston, Paul Almeida and Robert Almeida, both of New Bedford, David Almeida and Mark Almeida, both of California and Ralph Almeida of Fall River; 2 brothers, Anthony "Butch" Fermino of New Bedford and William Fermino of Arizona; 2 sisters, Barbara DePina and Bonita DeGrasse, both of New Bedford; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Stephen M. Almeida and the sister of the late Robert "Bob" Fermino and Henry "Sonny" Fermino.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, April 7th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Thursday, April 6th from 5-8 PM.
Interment St. John's Cemetery.
