Salem
Genevieve J. (Bouchard) Morneau, 93, of Salem, passed away peacefully at The Lafayette Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Marblehead, following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Hector B. Morneau, with whom she had shared 60 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Adolphe and Jeanne (Levasseur) Bouchard. She attended St. Joseph’s schools and was a long-time member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem. As a young woman, she worked at General Electric in Lynn, first in the mailroom and then as a secretary. Once married, Genevieve left her job to become a homemaker and dedicate herself to raising her children, ensuring everyone’s well-being and happiness. Since Hector had his pipe organ business at that time, Genevieve did the bookkeeping and provided other assistance as needed and able.
Having grown up in The Great Depression, Genevieve was extremely careful with money. She was the “best bargain shopper” and loved a good sale where she would stock up on necessary items for the family. She appreciated the simple pleasures in life and enjoyed watching TV, talking and spending time with her family. Genevieve was quite talented with yarn – knitting sweaters and crocheting blankets for her loved ones. Not one to drive a car herself, Genevieve loved to go for drives with her children. No need for a specific destination … simply to be outside enjoying the fresh air and scenery, while reminiscing and sharing funny stories.
Genevieve is survived by five daughters: Colette G. Pelletier and husband, Richard, of Hillsboro, NH, Nicole G. Morneau, Celeste G. Morneau & Denise G. Morneau, all of Salem, Michelle G. Muse of Chelmsford and one son, Paul H. Morneau of Salem, a brother, Raymond Bouchard and his wife, Virginia, and a sister-in-law, Lucille Bouchard, all of Beverly. She was predeceased by her brother, Gaston Bouchard. She also leaves seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Genevieve will be dearly missed and forever remembered with love.
It was Genevieve’s request that her services be private. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
