Obituary

WORCESTER - Margaret T. Carney, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. She was born and lived her entire life in Worcester, the daughter of Edward F. and Mary F. (Carroll) Kennedy. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, David G. Carney in 2005, and her brothers, Edward F. Kennedy, Jr. and William J. Kennedy and her sister-in-law, Patricia M. Kennedy.

Margaret graduated from North High School in Worcester. She earned an Associates's Degree from Becker College. Margaret began her career working with her father at New York Central Railroad. She also worked at the Lincoln House Girls Club and Wawecus Rd. School. She was the beloved Secretary for more than 30 years at St. Bernard's Church in Worcester, retiring in 2009. Her family, community, and faith were her passion. She was a giving soul, whether it was bringing homemade soup to the Mustard Seed and Abby's House, sorting donations at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store or giving "Gramma" brownies to everyone she met. Everyone loved her!

Margaret was known and loved for her devotion to her family and community. She is survived by her three daughters, Diane M. Driscoll (her Caregiver) and her husband, William of Worcester; Susan M. Carney and her husband, Peter Braveman of Fairbanks, AK; Karen T. Goettelmann and her husband, John of Ripton, VT; two sons, Philip D. Carney of Middletown, CT; and Matthew J. Carney and his wife, Geraldine McCarthy of Dennisport. She also leaves 9 grandchildren: Jonathan Driscoll of Springfield; Kim Driscoll of Worcester; Danielle Driscoll of Asheville, NC; Rebecca Carney-Braveman of Seattle, WA; Sam Carney-Braveman of Denver, CO; J.D. and Tim Goettelmann of Ripton, Vermont; and Jack and Isabel Carney of Old Lyme, CT. She also leaves her sister-in-law Marjorie Kennedy Millman and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 26th, at the Kelly Funeral Home, 154 Lincoln St., Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 27th, at St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester.
