Patricia I. (Mills) Souza, 82, of New Bedford passed away Thursday July 22, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of David B. Souza.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Harold F. and Elizabeth A. (Curran) Mills, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Pat was formerly employed as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Company and Verizon for many years until her retirement. A very dedicated worker, she had received an award from the company for 12 years of perfect attendance.
Pat was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Women’s League and the Intercessory Prayer Group. She was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers and a former Secretary for the S.E.Y.A.A. She also had been a Girl Scout leader for Troop 1.
She is survived by her husband, David; five children, Mark Souza and his wife Tammy, Russell Souza, Matthew Souza, David S. Souza, and Morgan Bernardo and her husband Emanuel; her siblings, Edith Silva and her husband Anthony, Elizabeth Galas, and Edward Mills and his wife Beverly; her daughter-in-law, Agnes Souza; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday July 27, 2021 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday July 26, 2021 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Autism Speaks (www.AutismSpeaks.org).
