Richard William Canty, 70, of Tewksbury, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston after a brief illness with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Joan E. (Mathers) Canty with whom he celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary this year.
A son of the late Francis and the late Mary Louise (Barker) Canty, he was born June 13, 1951, in Medford and was educated in the Tewksbury School System, graduating from Tewksbury Memorial High School, Class of 1969. He attended the Northeast Institute of Industrial Technology in Boston in the late 1970’s where he received training in the HVAC trade.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing at County Pond where they have a summer camp. He also enjoyed hunting especially his trips to Canada and throughout the Northeast over the years. He was a member of the Tewksbury and Newton, NH Rod and Gun club for years. Rick also loved spending time on his boat but if you asked him, his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He made his longtime home in Tewksbury and worked as a senior heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technician for Gutierrez & Company for over 20 years before his retirement in 2016.
In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by his children, Christopher J. Canty of Boston, Beth Ann Morelli and her husband, Michael, of Burlington, VT, Brian R. Canty of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jillian Coppola and her husband, Joseph, of Tewksbury; his grandchildren, Nicholas Canty, Jocelyn Coppola, Julia Coppola, and John ‘Jack’ Coppola; his brother, John W. ‘Jack’ Canty and his wife, Michelle of Rye, NH; his sister, Mary Lou Gamlin and her husband, James, of Palm Bay, FL; his sister in law, Judith Thurn and her husband Michael, of Port Charlotte, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends including his close friend, James McLean of Tewksbury.
He was predeceased by his hunting buddy of many years, Kenny Larry.
