George B. Lavoie, 95, of New Bedford passed away Friday July 16, 2021 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Jeannette M. (Blais) Lavoie.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, the son of the late George A. and Leona (Guilbeault) Lavoie, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
George was formerly employed as a produce manager for the A&P Supermarkets on Pope’s Island and in Mattapoisett. He later worked as an assistant store manager for Brooks Pharmacy in Wareham.
He was an active parishioner of St. Lawrence Parish, where he served as sacristan and was involved in the food pantry. He was awarded the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River for his service to his Church. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sharpshooters Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox.
George will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his children, George J. Lavoie of New Bedford and Diane L. Butler and her husband Scott of Dartmouth; his brother, Donald Lavoie and his wife Natalie of Bossier, LA; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Donald A. Lavoie and his brother, Leon Lavoie.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday July 20, 2021 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Visiting hours will be on Monday July 19 from 4-7 PM.
